James D. Carmella

Jim has practiced law in Indiana County for over forty years. As the founding member of the Carmella Law Office, Jim has extensive experience in a variety of legal areas, including Family Law, Real Estate, Estates & Trusts, Corporate and Natural Resources. He has also represented many public organizations.

Jim has served or continues to serve as the solicitor for Indiana County, Indiana County Industrial Development Authority, Indiana County Airport Authority, Indiana County Solid Waste Authority, Highridge Water Authority and several other municipalities or agencies in the County.

Early in his legal career, he served an Assistant District Attorney for four years in Indiana County. Jim has also acted as legal counsel for the following non-profit organizations: Birthright of Indiana County, Head Start of Indiana County, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Camp Sunrise, Meals on Wheels of Indiana County, Indiana Optimist Club and Indiana Little League Baseball and Softball.

Jim received his Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and Indiana County Bar Association. Jim formerly served as the President of the Indiana County Bar Association.

William J. Carmella

Jay joined his father at the Carmella Law Office after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2011. Jay has experience in a variety of legal areas, including Child Custody, Divorce, Real Estate, Estate Planning and Administration, Corporate and Criminal law.


He currently serves as the Solicitor for the Indiana County Children and Youth Services Agency, and he was an Assistant District Attorney in Indiana County from 2012-2016.

Jay serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the non-profit My New Leaf, and is actively involved in many other advisory organizations in the area. He is also a member of the Indiana County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.


Prior to law school, Jay worked as a consultant for Ryan, Inc. He specialized in economic development opportunities and statutory incentives. He negotiated incentive packages for various Fortune 1000 companies on a nationwide basis. 


Jay worked with state and local government officials in more than a dozen states. He also worked for State Senator Don White in Indiana.
